At least 54 people were killed on Saturday in a strike by Sudan's Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on a popular market in the city of Omdurman, the health ministry said in a statement.

War between the Sudanese army and RSF broke out in April 2023 over the integration of the two forces. It has killed tens of thousands of people, driven millions from their homes and plunged half of the population into hunger.

Saturday’s attack by the RSF in the Sabrein Market also wounded at least 158 others.

There was no immediate comment from the RSF.

Khalid al-Aleisir, minister of culture and government spokesperson, condemned the attack, saying that the casualties included many women and children. He also said the attack caused “widespread destruction to private and public properties.”
